World War II (7 May 1940 - 31 May 1945 Died of illness)
Geoffrey Claybrough was born in Croydon Park New South Wales on 3 December 1916, one of three children to Frank Claybrough and Bertha Worboys.
A motor mechanic, he enlisted at Paddington NSW on 7 May 1940. He gave his father’s address at 71 Parramatta Road Haberfield.
His initial service took place in Bathurst and Cowra and was discharged on 28 August 1941, having enlisted on 13 August for service outside the Commonwealth.
After initially serving at the General Details Depot in Sydney, he was marched in to the 104th Light Aid Detachment 29 August.
His records are incomplete, however it appears that Geoffrey was part of Gull Force when taken prisoner of war.
An article in the Cumberland Argus on 27 May 1942 states that Frank Claybrough of Granville was officially notified of his son’s internment.
He was held at Ambon POW Camp and died from illness on 31 May 1945. Some records suggest the illness was beri beri.
Geoffrey is interred at the Ambon War Cemetery.
